Planning for the AFJ Food conference in Philadelphia is underway, with James Beard Award winners Christopher Hirsheimer and Melissa Hamilton, of Canal House, signed on as our keynote speakers. The multi-talented pair will talk about their careers from their days at Saveur to their current culinary endeavors, including writing, designing and photographing their own series of cookbooks, writing their popular daily lunch blog, and even hosting a radio show.
Other highlights of the conference include a visit to the historic Reading Terminal Market, a morning in Old City with a tour of the just-opened Museum of the American Revolution with a discussion on colonial food, and an afternoon with Todd Carmichael, the founder of La Colombe coffee and host of Travel Channel’s Dangerous Grounds, at his flagship cafe in Fishtown. We’ll also tack on a tour of Philly’s newest craft distilleries.
We’re also planning a “Taste of Philly” night, a trip to Drexel’s innovative culinary school, and a panel of some of the city’s most prominent chefs who have founded food related charities.
Hope to see you there!
