2018 Awards competition: Call for Entries and Guidelines

Entries are now being accepted for AFJ's 2018 awards contest in food journalism. This year's contest covers 18 categories, including six new ones. Take a moment and review our 2018 Call for Entries and Guidelines. 

  • The submission deadline has been extended to March 5, 2018. Electronic and mail submissions are accepted. 
  • AFJ members pay a discounted rate on every entry. Submit your application for AFJ membership here
  • The contest is open to AFJ members and to food writers and editors who are not members of the association.

Please read the description of each category you plan to enter carefully, as well as the General
Rules and Procedures before assembling your entries. Submissions are now being accepted via the online entry form available here. Please note, we have extended the submission deadline to Monday, March 5, 2018.

CONTEST PROCEDURES

The awards competition chair is responsible for producing the Call for Entries, adding and eliminating categories and tweaking rules each year based on input from members; publicizing the contest within AFJ and outside; writing and distributing press releases listing the finalists and winners; and planning and emceeing the awards ceremony at the annual conference.

All hands-on contest duties—collecting and processing entries, securing judges, communicating with judges, tallying results, paying judges, etc.—are carried out exclusively and confidentially by AFJ’s executive director and the AFJ awards manager  with financial transactions executed by AFJ’s treasurer.
