Get Me Rewrite!

A coaching opportunity for AFJ contest entrants

Deadline to submit is Wednesday, June 5, 2019

AFJ is pleased to announce Get Me Rewrite!, a program providing non-finalists in the 2019 contest with a chance to receive detailed feedback from professionals who know how their pieces can be improved through reporting and revision.

How it works

Anyone who entered the 2019 AFJ Awards Competition and was not named as a finalist is eligible to submit 2019 entries for review. Additional writing samples will not be reviewed. Each entry will be charged separately. A maximum of three entries will be reviewed per individual.

AFJ has assembled a group of writing coaches, none of whom served as judges in the 2019 AFJ Awards Competition. Among them are Taste editor-in-chief Matt Rodbard; Imbibe executive editor Paul Clarke; Garden & Gun deputy editor Dave Mezz and The Takeout editor-in-chief Kevin Pang, as well as James Beard Award-winning journalists Shane Mitchell, Tracie McMillan and John Kessler.

Each participating non-finalist will be paired with a writing coach. It is the entrant’s responsibility to contact the writing coach to set up a 30-minute phone conversation to review editorial notes on the piece.

The deadline to submit is Wednesday, June 5, 2019. All individuals who submit their entries for review will be assigned a writing coach no later than Friday, June 14, 2019. At that time, AFJ will provide contact details for the writing coach.
