AFJ + IRE in MILWAUKEE - MARCH 29, 2019, 1 P.M. - 5 P.M.

AFJ has hired IRE, the highly-regarded nonprofit dedicated to improving the quality of investigative reporting, to conduct a daylong training specifically for food journalists.The sessions will be offered in Milwaukee on Friday, Mar. 29, the day before IRE hosts a Watchdog Workshop at Marquette University. (AFJ members also have the option to register separately for that program.)

IRE staff member Denise Malan will present the following sessions for the food journalism track:

  • Fact checking for profiles, reviews and other non-investigative pieces

  • Digging into private companies, from mom-and-pop restaurants to grocery chains

  • Looking into local agriculture: What kind of records are available to reporters, and how can they best use them?


The AFJ + IRE food journalism track registration fees include:

  • Three food journalism sessions led by IRE staff

  • Catered onsite lunch at the training venue

  • An optional evening happy hour, including transportation
